Unboxing & Setup: The New UNS Reef Systems Aquariums | First Look!

We unboxed the flagship of UNS's brand-new Reef Systems lineup: the 150cm (5-foot) model, part of a saltwater (SW) family that also includes 60cm, 90cm, and 120cm sizes. This is a full setup walkthrough of what makes this system different from a standard reef tank and sump.

Standout Display Tank Features

• Proprietary 45° miter-cut corners — no visible silicone seams, so scrapers glide edge-to-edge
• White-painted bottom for a clean bare-bottom look without ugly reflections
• Black tinted glass overflow chamber (not plastic) — easier to scrape GSP or coralline off, and you can silicone frag shelving directly to it
• Ultra-clarity low-iron glass with an integrated black background panel
• Magnetically removable aluminum stand panels for full equipment access with no doors in the way

Sump Design

• All-glass sump with fully rounded, beveled edges — no more arm cuts reaching in
• Full-width fit maximizes usable gallons
• Side accessory drawer, dedicated cable management, and a removable viewing window for chillers or other equipment
• Silicone (not rigid PVC) dosing tubing — flexible and easy to clean of calcium/alkalinity buildup
• Configurable chambers for equipment, refugium, and return pump with an integrated ATO reservoir and float valve mount

Plumbing

Everything ships pre-cut and pre-glued with quarter-turn valves and silicone gaskets (which compress better than standard vinyl). A dual-drain design gives a primary 1" drain plus an emergency overflow drain on the same bulkhead assembly, and bulkheads aren't glued in — they unscrew from underneath for easy maintenance access.
