Join Our Team as an Aquarium Specialist
Turn Your Aquarium Experience Into a Career Opportunity
Nature Aquariums is currently hiring a part-time or full-time Aquarium Specialist for our retail store in Lauderhill, Florida.
This opportunity is especially suited for a Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or related-science student who already has hands-on aquarium experience and wants to build practical knowledge while working in a fun, fast-paced specialty aquarium store.
This is a year-round position, not a seasonal or summer-only job. Applicants must live in South Florida throughout the year and be available to work during school semesters, weekends, and college breaks.
This Is More Than a Typical Retail Job
Nature Aquariums is a working aquatic environment with more than 100 freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Our team works with tropical fish, marine fish, corals, freshwater invertebrates, aquatic plants, aquarium equipment, water chemistry, filtration systems, and customer aquarium projects.
You will gain experience that complements what you learn in the classroom while helping customers become more successful aquarium keepers.
Depending on your experience and training, your work may include:
- Caring for freshwater and marine fish, corals, invertebrates, and aquatic plants
- Feeding livestock and observing animals for signs of illness, stress, or behavioral changes
- Testing water and maintaining proper aquarium conditions
- Cleaning aquariums and maintaining filtration and life-support systems
- Receiving, acclimating, and organizing new livestock
- Helping customers select appropriate fish, plants, corals, equipment, and aquarium supplies
- Explaining aquarium care, compatibility, water chemistry, filtration, and cycling
- Stocking products and maintaining clean, organized retail displays
- Assisting with aquascaping, aquarium setups, and special store projects
- Learning proper livestock-care and customer-service protocols
Who We Are Looking For
Qualified applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Currently studying Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field
- Lives in South Florida year-round and does not leave the area for extended school breaks
- Has personal or professional aquarium-keeping experience
- Has previous retail, sales, or customer-service experience
- Is comfortable approaching customers and starting conversations
- Is available to work weekends and during school semesters
- Can follow detailed animal-care and safety procedures
- Is dependable, punctual, observant, and willing to take initiative
- Is comfortable standing, bending, lifting, working with water, and remaining active throughout a shift
- Is interested in long-term employment rather than a temporary or seasonal position
Bilingual English and Spanish skills are helpful but not required.
The Right Person for This Position
You do not need to know everything about every type of aquarium on your first day. However, you must already have a solid foundation in aquarium keeping and be genuinely interested in expanding your knowledge.
The right person enjoys working with both animals and people. This position requires someone who can care for aquatic life responsibly while also welcoming customers, asking questions, explaining products, and helping people solve aquarium problems.
This position may not be a good fit for someone who:
- Is looking only for a short-term or summer job
- Will regularly leave South Florida during school breaks
- Has no hands-on aquarium experience
- Does not enjoy speaking with customers
- Prefers a slow-paced or desk-based work environment
- Needs to be reminded repeatedly to begin routine tasks
- Is uncomfortable getting wet, cleaning aquariums, or handling the physical demands of the job
What You Will Gain
Working at Nature Aquariums provides practical experience that is difficult to gain from classroom instruction alone.
Team members have opportunities to develop knowledge in:
- Aquatic animal husbandry
- Freshwater and marine aquarium systems
- Coral and aquatic-plant care
- Water chemistry and testing
- Fish health and disease recognition
- Aquarium filtration and life-support equipment
