AI Nero 3 Unboxing and Install

AI Nero 3 Unboxing and Install

This is a fully independent review, we bought this Nero 3 wave pump at full price ourselves. Here's the unboxing and install into our 13-gallon Peninsula nano reef tank, a saltwater (SW) setup where space for a traditional powerhead was tight.

Why the Nero 3 for a Small Tank

Compact size and a dual-magnet mounting system (one magnet outside the glass, one inside) made it the right fit for a 13-gallon nano where a larger powerhead would've eaten up too much usable space. The angle is fully adjustable just by rotating the inner magnet mount, and the included guard makes cleaning simple.

Setup

  • Controller mounts inside the cabinet with a simple bracket, positioned near existing equipment (in our case, alongside an aquavitro Sentia doser and ATO system)
  • Pump placement matters relative to your outflow — positioning off-center avoided current interaction with the display's existing outflow
  • Setup and control run through the MyAI app via Bluetooth only (no Wi-Fi option)

Programming Flow

The app lets you set a baseline constant flow percentage, then drag-and-drop a random reef mode across specific hours of the day for natural wave motion. You can also drag in a feed-mode window that automatically drops flow to coincide with an automatic feeder cycle.
