Riccardia Moss (Coral Moss) — Portion

$9.95 USD

Riccardia moss (scientifically Riccardia chamedryfolia) is a highly sought-after miniature liverwort. Native to Southeast Asia, it's affectionately called Coral Moss or Mini Pellia in the aquascaping hobby for its deep green, compact, intricate coral-like branching structure. It's prized for the refined, textured "aged" look it brings to planted tanks, and because it naturally anchors itself, it's perfect for attaching to driftwood, porous lava rock, or steel mesh to create carpets or vertical walls. The complex branching also provides a fantastic microhabitat for shrimp — shrimplets use the dense cushions as a safe haven while grazing on the biofilm that collects on the plant. Also available pre-mounted on Stainless Steel.

Skill Level Moderate
CO2 Optional
Requires Aqua Soil No
Type Moss (Liverwort)
Max Height Low, compact coral-like branching
Placement Foreground, hardscape accents (moss trees, rocks)
Light Level Low to Medium (10-40 PAR)
Origin Southeast Asia
Other Slow grower; sensitive to high temperatures (above 83°F/28°C can cause melt) — clean, stable water is recommended.

Care & Planting: Break into small, dime-sized pieces and either tie down with thin fishing line/cotton thread or attach with a small amount of cyanoacrylate (gel) superglue to a hardscape surface. Because it grows densely, the bottom layers of thick mats can shade out and rot — trim or split clumps regularly to keep them healthy.
