Pogostemon erectus is a unique-looking stem plant with pointy, thin leaves growing from the central stem — a great background plant that grabs attention when grown as a thick bush. Tissue culture plants are grown in vitro in a specialized aquatic-plant lab, the best option for anyone who wants zero unwanted pests introduced into the aquarium.

Skill Level Moderate
CO2 Optional (recommended for best growth)
Requires Aqua Soil Not required, but recommended
Type Stem
Max Height 12-20"+ (trim to control; starts at 2-3" as TC)
Placement Background (except in the very largest tanks)
Light Level Medium to High (approx. 50-100 PAR)
Origin Thailand (tissue culture lab origin; species native to India)
Other Remove tissue culture gel before planting by rinsing or squeezing off under water.

Care & Planting: Propagate by cutting anywhere along the stem and replanting trimmings — two new shoots will grow from the cut point.

A note on appearance: Many stem plants, including this one, are harvested in their above-water (emersed) form, and the photo may not reflect how it looks once fully adjusted to life underwater. Leaf shape and coloration commonly shift as the plant transitions to submersed growth — don't be surprised if new growth looks different from what arrived in your order. Give it a few weeks to acclimate before judging its final look.
