Easy Undergravel Filter System

$24.99 USD

Undergravel Filter Systems have been around for decades. The simplicity is its strength. We've added a few optimizations to the platform, like using our Easy Flow air lift system. This was accomplished by using our uplift system, creating a new collar to utilize our weighted air stones, which are included with the kit. Undergravel filters do a great job of filtering particles out of the water and housing beneficial bacteria while maintaining a gentle flow for shrimp, fish, and plants. The sliding design allows you to put the uplifts anywhere in the tank, giving you the ability to hide the uplift in a rock formation or behind your favorite piece of driftwood.

Airstones come with an extra middle section that was meant to be removed at the factory. For easiest fitment, remove 1 disk per air stone when installing.

Features

  • Modular plate system
  • Customizable uplift tube placement
  • Scalable to any size aquarium

Installation

Start with a bare bottom aquarium (if you have substrate in the tank, you will need to remove it first). Lay out the modular plates based on the width of the tank bottom you want the filter to cover, then add plates in front to complete your grid pattern. The plates connect by sliding the dovetail into the corresponding tab opening.

Before connecting all of the plates, install the uplift tubes by sliding them on the sides for the row you would like them on. Install the air collar with an air stone with a short piece of airline tubing (if using the supplied air stone, remove 1 air stone spacer for best fit). Once the uplift tubes have been attached, you may complete the plate connecting step. Once all the plates and uplift tubes have been connected, you can finish by covering with a gravel of your choice. We recommend using a substrate that is at least 5mm in size, and adding between 1" to 2" in depth. Undergravel systems are not designed to be utilized with sand, soil, or other finer substrates.

Dimensions

Each plate measures 2.75" x 5.5" (2 7/8" x 5 5/8" including dovetail tabs), and is 9/16" thick. Total dimension of the included 20 plates is 11" x 27.75". The included Easy Flow Uplift Tubes measure 19" in height, and can be extended with additional tubes if needed.

Each kit contains 20 Easy Undergravel Filter Plates, enough for 10, 20, and 29 gallon tanks. 9 plates can cover the bottom of a 10 gallon aquarium, so one kit can be used for two 10-gallon aquariums with one uplift tube each. For larger tanks needing full coverage, two kits are recommended.

Additional Supplies Needed

The undergravel filter does not produce air on its own, so you'll also need:

  • Air pump
  • Airline tubing
  • Check valve (to prevent water from pouring out of the tank when the power is off)
