Echinodorus Osiris — Melon Sword

$8.95 USD

Echinodorus Osiris, the Melon Sword, is a popular member of the sword family with a rosette growth pattern and large, round leaves. Under ideal conditions — high light with CO2 injection — the leaves develop a beautiful red tint. Due to its size, it's typically grown in the background, where it fills in nicely.

Type Rooted

Other Trim any damaged or imperfect leaves to promote new growth. Propagates by dividing at the base or via flower stalks that send out runners — both can be separated and replanted once mature.

Care & Planting: Remove from the pot and root wool before planting into a rich substrate such as UNS ControSoil. Heavy root feeder — add root tabs if the plant grows very large.

A note on "melting": Like most Amazon Swords and Cryptocoryne species, this plant is farm-grown emersed (above water). When you first submerge it, don't be alarmed if the original leaves die back over the first few weeks — this is called melting, and it's a normal part of the transition, not a sign the plant is failing. Emersed leaves are built for air and only have stomata on their underside; once submerged, the plant sheds them in favor of new underwater leaves with stomata on both sides, better suited to absorbing CO2 from the water. New submersed growth typically appears within a few weeks.
