Common Name: Water Trumpet, Petchii, C. Beckettii

Water Trumpet is a popular Crypt that makes a beautiful mid-ground accent or centerpiece — reddish, ruffle-textured, oblong leaves offer a striking contrast to green back- or mid-ground plants. It's a popular choice for beginners to Crypt-keeping. Grown in-vitro as a tissue culture, this cup arrives free of pests, algae, and snails.

Skill Level Moderate
CO2 Optional
Requires Aqua Soil Yes — needs calcium, CO2, phosphate, iron, and nitrate to thrive
Type Rooted (Crypt) — Tissue Culture
Max Height 4-6"
Placement Midground
Light Level Moderate to Low (approx. 30-60 PAR) — will melt under overly strong light
Origin South Asia
Other Family: Araceae. pH 5.5-8.0. Slow grower. Propagates via runners; plant individual stems about 1" apart for good coverage.

Care & Planting: Rinse tissue-culture gel off before planting. Cryptocoryne prefer not to be moved once planted — avoid relocating them if possible.

A note on "crypt melt": Cryptocoryne are well known for shedding their leaves after being moved, replanted, or exposed to a sudden change in water parameters. This is normal — new, better-adapted leaves typically regrow within a few weeks once the plant settles in. Don't panic if it happens; just maintain stable conditions and give it time to recover.
