Blyxa japonica is a lovely aquatic plant that adds a spikey, upright element to a planted aquarium. Its long, slender leaves flow in the current — bronze-tinged under strong light, translucent green under more modest lighting. It makes a nice addition to the front or midground of an aquascape but does best in a well-tended, high-light, CO2-supplemented tank with a nutritious substrate. It does not tolerate rough handling from boisterous fish. This is an obligate aquatic plant, meaning it cannot be grown out of water.

Note: the source text referred to this plant as "Blyxa aubertii" in one place and "Blyxa japonica" in another — standardized to Blyxa japonica throughout to match the title. Title spelling also corrected from "Blyxia" to the correct genus spelling "Blyxa."
