Bolbitis Heteroclita (Asian Water Fern)

Description: Bolbitis heteroclita, commonly known as the Asian water fern, is a unique and attractive aquatic fern. It features deeply lobed, bright green leaves that grow on creeping rhizomes. This fern is well-suited for aquariums, paludariums, and terrariums due to its adaptability to both submerged and emersed conditions. The leaves are typically 5-10 cm in length and can create a dense, lush appearance in aquatic settings.

Habitat: This fern is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, thriving in shaded, humid environments near streams and waterfalls. In aquariums, it prefers low to moderate lighting and can be attached to rocks or driftwood.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Low to moderate lighting. Avoid strong, direct light.
  • Water: Keep submerged in aquariums or in very humid conditions if grown emersed. Ensure good water circulation.
  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 68-82°F (20-28°C).
  • Substrate: Can be attached to rocks or driftwood. Does not require soil substrate.
  • Fertilizer: Benefits from regular liquid fertilization, especially if grown submerged.

Uses: Bolbitis heteroclita is popular in aquascaping for its aesthetic appeal and adaptability. It is often used to create natural-looking aquascapes, providing cover and interest in both freshwater aquariums and paludariums. Its resilience makes it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
