Pteris Ensiformis (Sword Brake Fern)

Description: Pteris ensiformis, commonly known as the sword brake fern, is a decorative fern appreciated for its delicate, arching fronds and unique variegation. It features slender, sword-shaped leaves with a striking pattern of white or silver variegation along the midrib. The fronds can grow up to 15-30 cm in length, making it a perfect choice for terrariums, dish gardens, or as a houseplant.

Habitat: This fern is native to tropical and subtropical regions and thrives in humid, shaded environments. It prefers moist, well-draining soil and indirect light, mimicking the understory conditions of its natural habitat.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
  • Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. High humidity is ideal.
  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C).
  • Soil: A well-draining, peat-based potting mix.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season (spring and summer).

Uses: Pteris ensiformis is commonly used in indoor gardens, terrariums, and as a decorative houseplant due to its attractive foliage and easy care requirements. It adds a lush, green touch to any space and pairs well with other shade-loving plants.
